Coldplay

Since Coldplay has sold over 100 million albums worldwide, they are known as one of the best-selling music acts of all time. According to Fuse, Coldplay is also the sixth-most awarded group in history, including the most Brit Awards nominations and wins. This British rock band has impressed fans since the 90s and continues to do so with its diverse sound and unique musical style.

Coldplay was formed in London in 1997 by Chris Martin, who plays piano and does lead vocals, guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman, drummer Will Champion, and creative director Phil Harvey. This group of talented musos all met at university and started playing together from 1996 to 1998. In 1999, the band signed with Parlophone and released their debut album, Parachutes, in 2000, which showcased their hit single, Yellow. The album went on to receive the Brit Award for British Album of the year, a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album, and a Mercury prize nomination.

A Rush of Blood to the Head was released in 2002 and won the same accolades and a Grammy Award for Record of the Year. The title track of their fourth album, Viva la Vida became the first single by a British group to simultaneously reach number one in the UK and the United States in the 21st century.

Coldplay has recorded nine studio albums, the last one being Music of the Spheres, released in 2021. Fans can look forward to their tenth album, Moon Music, which they are working on, but the release date is unknown.

The band is generous in its success and donates ten percent of all its profits to philanthropic causes. They have made donations towards many charitable causes and currently endorse thirty organizations that aim to make the world a better place.

Having won seven Grammy Awards from the 39 nominations throughout their career, Coldplay has been said to be the “Beatles of the 21st century” in terms of “hit-making abilities and potential heft,” according to Sergey Stepanov of Afisha.
